A screening guide, not product approval. Thickener ratings alone do not establish compatibility of finished greases. Base oils, additives, operating conditions and mixture proportions also matter. Confirm the exact products with your supplier and appropriate laboratory testing before mixing.

Polyurea exception: SKF reports tested compatibility of its LGHP 2 and LGHQ 2 products with lithium and lithium-complex greases. This product-specific result does not extend automatically to other polyurea greases.

Compressor Oil Compatibility
A base-fluid miscibility guide for mineral, partial-synthetic, PAO, PAG, diester, silicone and POE compressor oils.
Miscibility is only one part of compatibility. Oils that blend physically may still differ in additives, viscosity, seal compatibility or performance. Confirm the exact products and compressor requirements before topping up, mixing or changing oils. This chart concerns oil-to-oil mixing; it does not establish refrigerant compatibility.

How to read the exceptions
Partial synthetic: Generally miscible with mineral oil, partial synthetic, PAO, diester and POE in this QA guide. A partial-synthetic designation does not identify a single chemistry; confirm the base oils and exact products. PAG and silicone combinations remain marked V.
PAG: Conventional PAG generally does not mix with mineral oil or PAO. Oil-soluble PAGs exist. The same-family M rating assumes matching PAG chemistry. Different PAG formulations can fail to mix with each other; confirm the exact products. PAG/ester combinations remain marked V.
Diester & POE: Both are ester families. M ratings apply the general ester-oil miscibility relationship to these families; they are not product-specific test results. PAG/ester mixtures require confirmation of the actual formulation.
Silicone: Methyl and phenyl silicone oils have different miscibility patterns. Silicone with silicone is marked M for matching silicone chemistry; combinations with other oil families remain marked V. Confirm the silicone type and exact products. Methyl silicone is generally not miscible with mineral, PAO, ester or conventional PAG oils.
Full synthetic: The PAO column specifically means polyalphaolefin. PAG, diester and POE can also be fully synthetic; the marketing term alone does not identify chemistry.
Plan the oil change
Provide the compressor model, both lubricant names, viscosity grades and operating conditions. Ask the lubricant supplier and equipment manufacturer for product-specific compatibility and changeover instructions, including any required draining, flushing and seal review.

Application guide
Get the lubricant to the working parts.
Measure the right temperature.
Review actual chain temperature and temperature at the lubrication point, rather than using the oven setpoint alone. An oil flash point is not a continuous operating-temperature rating. Solid-containing products require review of both the liquid carrier and the remaining solid film.
Review the delivery equipment.
Confirm pump, nozzle, brush or automatic-feed compatibility, flow and application location. Excessive heat at the application point can evaporate the carrier before lubricant reaches the chain joints. Follow the equipment and lubricant suppliers’ recommendations.
Keep solids evenly distributed.
For solid-containing formulations, review storage, mixing and feed-system requirements. Summit specifically instructs users to agitate EnviroTech CO FG before use so the white graphite is distributed evenly.
Plan cleaning and changeover.
Inspect for restricted joints and deposits. Review the existing lubricant and cleaning procedure before changing products. A new formulation cannot reach the contact surfaces if hardened residue blocks the lubrication path.

Food processing applications
A bakery application does not automatically mean food-grade.
Review the exact lubricant and required registration for the application. H1 covers incidental food contact; it does not permit deliberate direct food contact. H2 products are intended for areas where food contact is not permitted. The CO-95 and CO-250 sheets list H2; CO-220 FG lists H1. Summit identifies CO-120 FG Extreme and EnviroTech CO FG as food-grade options. Confirm current documentation and your facility’s requirements with QA.
